SPONSOR A CHILD
Shade Children Foundation (SCF) is a non-governmental organisation in Thika, which provides vulnerable children a home and a safe place to stay for as long as they need it. The Kenyan board is not able to do this work without your help!
You can help them by sponsoring a child or by supporting the children in general.
The Children
Most of the children will be spending a longer period of time, if not their whole youth in Shade house. The children have all different backgrounds. Most of them are orphans, some could not stay with their family any longer. This because they were in a situation of abuse or not being cared for.. Almost all of the Shade children are referred to Shade Children Foundation by the Children’s Officer. SCF wants to take care of these children by providing them love, attention and a stable environment to grow up. Besides that SCF provides the children in their basic material needs, such as secure shelter, food and education. To be able to provide all of these needs, we request your help!
Several possibilities to sponsor
You can help the children by sponsoring Shade Children Foundation. We have the opinion that everybody who wants to support Shade, should be able to, no matter the monthly amount a person has to offer. Several sponsors can 'adopt' a child together. The first 15 euro sponsored per child will be spend at daily life costs of the children in general. The next 10 euro will be put into a saving account in The Netherlands and will be used for costs of study for the specific child in the future. Our goal is to find one or more sponsors for every child till at least an amount of 25 euro per child. Options are on the bottom of this page.
It might not be a suprise to you that with on average 25 children in our home with the amount of 15 euro per child sponsored, we can not make ends meet.
The reserved budget for general cost is with 25 kids times 15 euros per month: 375€. The budget monthly needed is around 1500€.
Throughout the month we usually get other donations, sell a lot of donated goods, sell our special wines, sell home made postcards and try to do lots of other pursuits to make our monthly goals.
We would love to have more monthly sponsors that contribute to the monthly general budget in order to make Shade house a save place to stay.
There is also a possibility to contribute to our education fund, which is used when reservations for a specific child are not enough to cover the costs of secundary school (secondary school usually costs around €900 per year per child)
If you like to become a sponsor you can download the form 'Vrienden van Shade' , fill it out an email it back at us. The form is in Dutch but of course you can sponsor Shade as a non-dutch person of organisation. Please email us and let us know and we will find a way to make it happen.

Sponsoring A specific Child
The sponsor can be an individual or an organisation and they will transfer the amount of 25 euro monthly for a specific child. 15 euro of that amount will be spend for the children in general, 10 euro will be put into a savings account for the specific child. If you want to, you can create a personal contact by sending and receiving pictures, drawings and letters or even visit the child. Shade Children Foundation will keep the sponsor updated by mail on the developments of his/her child regularly. Of course a child will never be forced to communicate with their sponsor(s), but in general they love it.
Sponsoring A child together with other people
The sponsor can be an individual or an organisation and they will transfer a monthly amount for a specific child. Depending the amount a child can have for example two or even four or five sponsors. Shade Children Foundation will keep the sponsor updated by mail on the developments of his/her child regularly. Personal contact is also possible, but depends on the number of sponsors and their wish to have personal contact. Of course a child will never be forced to communicate with their sponsor(s), but in general they love it.
SPonsoring Shade CHILDREN FOUNDATION in General
It is possible to support on a regular base or only once. If you want to sponsor Shade in general, the amount will be spend on monthly costs (food, electricity, medical costs, etc.) At this moment the monthly budget still is a big challenge and there are many other needs like providing sports activities, (replacing) furniture, etc. It is therefor also possible to support Shade Children Foundation on monthly bases for 'general budget'.
